Home Living Support Program
Home Living Support Program
The FLCS Home Living Assistance Program (HLAP) delivers round-the-clock residential support services for both adults and youth with disabilities, emphasizing the development of daily living skills and fostering companionship within a highly secure environment. Through our HLAP, FLCS is committed to offering personalized and effective services to individuals requiring care and their families. Residents supported by the Assured Income for the Severely Handicapped (AISH) in our residential program incur monthly charges covering room and board, meals, and living expenses as part of their AISH-related costs. Additionally, FLCS provides essential items such as mattresses, bedding, television sets, couches, and more to individuals lacking these necessities at no charge, ensuring their living conditions are as comfortable as possible during their stay with us.
At FLCS, our HLAP grants access to various housing models tailored to meet evolving needs and varying levels of required support. Some housing models available at FLCS include Cluster Housing, Group Living, and Supported Independent Living.
Cluster Living Community
We have established a purposeful community centered around cluster housing to consistently support individuals in need of care. Forever Living Care Services (FLCS) offers the option of multiple individual homes (four or more) situated in close proximity, forming a distinct community for our residents. This innovative housing support model can be implemented in various locations across Calgary and its surroundings.
For instance, in the Skyview Ranch community in Calgary, we have created a cluster of four houses within a cohesive neighborhood. The homes within this model can vary in size and may be privately owned or leased. Residents benefit from social events and community-building activities within the cluster housing environment.
Moreover, our residents can access 24/7 support services, made possible through shared support service costs facilitated by the PDD Family Management Support Program. This cluster living housing model is cost-effective and efficient in delivering services to meet the unique needs of our community members.
Independent Living with Support
At Forever Living Care Services (FLCS), we empower individuals to reside in their chosen homes, whether privately rented or owned or alongside a selected roommate in the roommate's residence. In this living arrangement, carefully matched roommates provide a separate suite within the home, complete with a separate entrance, meeting FLCS living space standards and adhering to all current building codes.
Our Supportive Roommate program ensures 24/7 assistance, focusing on enhancing daily living skills and fostering companionship within a secure and inviting private home. These roommates, contracted by FLCS and the individual or their guardian, serve as supportive figures without being classified as staff. They are compensated monthly for their assistance and are expected to fulfill their contractual obligations. Roommates offer support tailored to the needs outlined in the individual's Support Plans (ISPs). FLCS currently oversees at least four homes in the Northeast quadrant of Calgary, with some of these homes occupied by individuals benefiting from the supportive roommate model.
Group Living
A living arrangement tailored for individuals with disabilities, commonly called a group home or residential care home, offers a structured and supportive setting. Individuals with physical, intellectual, or developmental disabilities find a home in these environments at FLCS. The model involves one, two, or three individuals sharing a residence with a supportive family or individual, emphasizing intentional connections among friends or relatives. This deliberately designed group living arrangement aims to strengthen bonds among individuals committed to sharing their lives, enabling them to coexist irrespective of physical or intellectual challenges. These homes, varying in size and ownership status (privately owned/rented), provide benefits such as enhanced independent living, the ability to choose a supportive home, and a homely atmosphere. The overarching goal is to promote independence, community integration, and an improved quality of life for individuals with disabilities, encouraging residents to actively participate in daily decision-making, personal growth activities, and community interactions.
In group homes for individuals with disabilities, dedicated and trained professionals provide continuous support and care. These staff members assist residents with various tasks, including personal hygiene, medication management, meal preparation, transportation, and organizing social activities. The level of care delivered is tailored to meet the residents' specific needs, reflecting a personalized approach. At FLCS, a commitment to comprehensive training within the first 90 days of employment ensures that staff are equipped with the necessary skills to offer compassionate and empowering support. This commitment aims to maintain a high standard of care and create a nurturing living environment for individuals with disabilities.
At FLCS, all our staff who work in a group living setting are expected to have specific training within their first 90 days of employment. Some of these training include:
